Zane
A bit Dresden Dolls almost a bit Drums I don’t get the Dvid Lynch analogy some sugegest.

Zeitgeist

a typical 80s sounding band that recall poorer output Danse Society and other band such as In Excelcis. released singles across a range of labels including Human Records and Jamming! Records

Zeitgeist Zero

Presumably thought that by pipping Zeitgeist they would get the honour of being the last band on the site but obviously forgot about the Mindwarp. Seem to be aiming for schlock fifties surf horror punk stuff. Makes a change from formulaic industrial though

Zeitgeist Zero  make a pleasant enough  noise but are unlikely to ever win  any prizes for poetry as they rush to cram in as many rhyming couplets as they possibly can into their songs but with a singer called Teresa Dead  you kind  of think she  was destined to be a singer in a Goth band or an undertaker. Vocally quite varied on their eponymous album as one minute I wish to chastise them for their Athhamayesque efforts only for them to suddenly go all Moonchild.

Zenith
“Flowers of Intelligence,” came out on Industrial Strength Records but the music is quite trancey albeit with some pretty phat bass. Things pick up with some pretty full on high octane drums though but still with a pretty light almost synth pop musical accompaniment. Instrumental for the most part vocals being confined to guttural sampled speech and with quite proggy track titles such as “Green allucinated mushroom,” some of which live up to the tag.

Zeraphine
Remind me of a cross between the Chameleons and Wolfsheim, possibly a bit Judith. Very listenable

Zero Corporation

My initial thought is Depeche Mode with a Tears for Fears and Alphaville aftertaste. Very early 80s.

“This disconnection,” is a real slice of 80s synth pop. Kind of Ultravox/Alphaville meet Wolfsheim

Zero le Creche

I hadn’t really heard of ZLC other than the fact that they had a disk in the excellent Anagram Gothic compilation, “Last Year’s Wife.” Although they did get a mention in NMEs recent A to Z of goth which means they are either a) more famous than I realised or b) the poor work experience girl researching the piece hit the anagram page when googling goth.

Anyway lack of profile aside “Last Year’s Wife,” the title track of the comp is probably their standout moment and they knock out a perfectly listenable chameleons/psychedelic furs kind of sound for the most part although they were capable of bauhausing when it suited them.

Zeromancer

Zeromancer look fantastic, all cartoon cyber clothes and spikey hair. in fact you wonder whether they invented themselves as on-line avatars abd grew into their roles in real life.
“Cupola,” their contribution to “beauty in darkness 2” is one of that album’s stand out tracks which is high praise indeed on an album that leaves the Mission’s contribution feeling decidedly mid-table.
The “Eurotrash,” album contains the aforementioned in all its moody Depeche Mode glory together with a number of Colony  5 style electro-goth pop ditties but with a tendency to go unnecessarily shouty at times which is a shame as there is enough going on without having to resort to that particular cliché. Oh yes, and one of them seems to have the same black kilt as me.
A little bit trip hoppy, very atmospheric and electro. Kind of Depeche Mode meets U2 meets Wolfsheim. Worth listening out for.

Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction

Late 80s early 90s greebo sleaze rockers who you suspect even bathe in their leather trousers.

Strong links to the KLF, Front man “Z” better known as Mark Manning co-wrote the diabolical “Bad Wisdom,” with Bill Drummond who also co-produced early Mindwarp releases.

Predominantly remembered for two mainstream singles the ace “Prime Mover,” and the multi-format “Backseat education.” Having folded in 94 the Mindwarp resurfaced around a decade letter reintroducing themselves to the dives and fleapits of the UK.

Their classic album “Tattooed Beat Messiah,” established them as the Cult’s horny younger brother – one of their founder members even jumped ship for the Cult before their 15 minutes.

Zola Jesus

Zola Jesus are one of those lush new Gothic bands that have a massive sweeping but claustrophobic post-Cocteau’s sound. One of the finest examples is Glitterbombed by Charlotte Church but even bands like the XX hint at it.

Zombie Girl

Horror themed electro industrial of the lighter  variety with a bit of an 8 bit computer game kind of undercurrent. My box set version  of “Blood, Brains and Rock ‘n’ Roll,” even  came with a free  badge  and stickers which feels  very twee and  80s.

Zyklon

Everything about the album “Aeon,” by Zyklon looks like it is going to be a very heavy industrial album, the images, the text, even the graphic design. The one element that doesn’t quite fit the bill is the music which is for the most part growly metal. The Zyklon boys, for yes they all appear to be chaps, no counterbalanced operatic female vocals here, appear to hail from Scandinavia. Norway possibly, the booklet has a lyric sheet with the prose all in English albeit not the sort a native would probably write. I am presuming that the lyrics as sung match those written down, if translated the scanning and rhyming would seem too much of a coincidence but frankly from the guttural growl I wouldn’t have a fucking clue.
