Various

A tribute to some of the many goth compilations that have been released over the years.  There was a time when every week seemed to deliver another goth comp. and i have neither the time or inclination to list all of them here so i will focus on particularly the early ones and some of the more interesting.
Sadly that leaves no time for "Dreams from the Witches House," any of the "We came to dance" series or "Gothic Sounds of Nightbreeds."

A Pretty Smart Way to Catch a Lobster

by all accounts the Alice in Wonderland was one of London's premier Goth clubs. If the album is anything to go by the clientele looked pretty cool and the bands for the most part were mildly psychedelic rock. Featured amongst others Webcore, Gwllym & the Raspberry Flavoured Cat and the Spooks.

American Gothic

Before a TV drama featuring the bloke out of midnight caller American Gothic was that weird painting and a patchy goth compilation

Batcave

an early release compiling the best bits of the bat cave regulars including Specimen, Alien Sex Fiend and Meat of Youth

Ladies, Queens and Sluts

Proof that prior to Evanescence matching Dead or Alive with a Goth number one in the singles chart there were an awful lot of bands that didn't sound dissimilar.
Not significantly different from the majority of Orchus compilations (Rather good though if you can track a copy down.)

New Alternatives

Trev Ghost's first foray into the record industry produced Nightbreed’s first ever release. A compilation of the hottest band on the scene at the time featuring his current band ENDG and a host of like minded acts like Sins of the Flesh and Casual Sanity. Periodically Trev releases an update snapshot to keep the kids on tenterhooks.

Undead/Flesh Fangs and Filligrie/Stilleto Vamp etc.

Any number of dressed to kill three cd box sets featuring a selection of big hitters (in the small scale sense) who lost the rights to their early indie output along with newer more obscure acts  seasoned with a smattering of presumably the labels mates doing poor covers under ambiguous names (the crue or the sisters anyone?). Add an extreme warning on the cover and depressingly tame fetish photo's on the sleeves and you have this marketing ploy that saturated the shelves towards the end of the nineties.
Although at one point their output appeared an ever increasing beast closer examination revealed that they appeared to own the rights to about 75 tracks constantly re-smeared across multiple 50 track compilations. To give them their due though their ambient compilation "Ambedelic Space" was pretty cool.

Whip, the

A film soundtrack apparently although i have never heard anything about the film. Contains tracks by Blood and Roses, Andi Sex Gang etc. Possibly the first or at least one of the earliest goth compilations.
