kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk....................Kains Kinder
I don’t know the German for apocalyptic folk but it might as well be Kains Kinder. the best non-English speaking Backworld I have heard
Karelin
fairly scary looking bunch playing pretty solid Gothic metal. Their reimagining of “Losing my religion” is genius though
Karma Sutra
All mystery and eastern promise. A bit World Serpent.
KASMS
KASMS
have a fairly foxy mermaid on the cover of their “Spayed,” LP so I can’
exactly complain. They sound like one of those bands that you like to
think are hugely inspired by Siouxsie and are the new wave of Goth punk
but given previous incumbents such as Ipso Facto never progressed it’s
a case of waiting with baited breath (which is presumably easier for
mer-people
Like the fact that “Spayed,” is almost completely cardboard so recyclable and sustainable.
Kaspel, Ed
“Tanith
and the Lion Tree,” instantly makes me think of a very scarey show
tune. I suspect I’d love the musical but would probably have to watch
the DVD from behind the sofa
Katatonia
As there name might suggest, Katatonia are quite a chilled sounding guitar Goth band.
Katscan
One of those bands that seemed to be eternally hanging in the wings behind, Inertia, Killing Miranda et al. You can’t exactly criticise the noise they make but you wouldn’t seek them out. Probably the perfect support band providing you aren’t hoping to discover the next big thing.
“Feral Bios,” is an album apparently their first put out through Nightbreed, They have clearly modelled themselves on Sheep on Drugs with less tunes, talent or originality which is pushing it given how mediocre SOD were.
Kave
Ominousium is good atmospheric dungeon music
Kavnacka
Slightly scanners quite grunge with breathy female vocals
Kazooee
“Wish
I had a Wolf Suit,” is a weird one. I’ve listened to this a dozen times
now trying to pin it down and finally I am beginning to think Inkubus
Sukkubus meets Belly and the vocals are very much the former even if
the sound drifts towards the latter. Seem to hail from Chesterfield and
seems to be very self produced the CD outguns professional releases
I’ve been conned into buying.
Keep of Kalessin
Noodly progressive metal with a distinctly hard edge from a bunch of lads you suspect play Dungeons and Dragons in the tour bus.
Kevortkian Death Cycle
Poppy dancey electro with guitars and quite an industrial veneer. Quite a late 90s Nightbnreed feel too. Good cover of “it’s a sin,” even if “Destroyer of Worlds,” has a better title. Roses Never Fade Imagine a minimalist darkwave Dire Straits. Beautiful and tender, could be lifted straight from the soundtrack to “Twin Peaks”
KGC
KGC seems to reflect the initials of the surnames of the three protagonists one of which appears to be something to do with KMFDM which probably explains why “Dirty Bomb,” is released on KMFDM records. It’s actually surprisingly light and poppy in many places given the premise then and sounds remarkably mainstream (in a good way)
Khost
“Red Spot,” is another to send me diving for the Halfords catalogue as i worry i need a new car stereo. First half is instrumental screechy dungeon build up before some growly vocals and possibly screams get buried in the mix.
kHz
Quite nu-metally in its slow brooding build ups. Lacuna Coil-lite
“Reality on a finer scale,” was released in one of those cases that had stickers across the plastic rather than the usual paper inserts that didn’t really catch on but had the rather nice clip to stop them falling open. Quite potty mouthed and “Let it Go,” is sadly not the Disney track although I think it would have predated frozen by quite a stretch so probably unlikely with hindsight. Something of a touch of Mr Manson, a little Evanescence and a touch of Faith No More. “Broken,” could be an alt-rock lighter in the air anthem.
Kidney Thieves
Imagine a scary industrial Alanis Morrissette
Kifoth
“Acerbity Torrent,” appears in part to be a rarities collection although they only explain the back story for 5 tracks suggesting the other 12 are either new or not noteworthy. At times quite minimalist and even the more full on affairs still seem somewhat understated compared to some of their peers. One track apparently reconstructed from a demo written in Slovak. Presumably they mean the lyrics rather than music unless the instruments in Slovakia have different notes on them. KIFOTH is apparently an abbreviation of Kneel In Front of the Executioner except it isn’t, that would be KIFOTE- a stupid name for a band, although they might have used to have been called Kneel In Front of thhe Hangman which would abbreviate to KIFOTH but then you tend to stand up for hangmen not kneel down so that doesn’t make much sense either.
Killer B Movie
High octane punk n roll that initially reminds me of Therapy? But with squeaky vocals that make me wonder if this is the bloke out of Killing Miranda
Killing Joke
One of the original punk goth bands predominantly with the leading foot in the punk camp, KJ have knocked out some classics over the years.
Love Like Blood as well as inspiring a band of the same name has rooted itself firmly onto the play list of pretty much every goth night on the planet. Whist eighties proved so influential a grunge band who will not be named ended up paying a fair few quid for the degree to which they were “inspired.”
There was a slight wobble when a double live album that amounted to little more than a conspiracy theory influenced rant by Jaz Coleman was released but the band have continued to tour and produce new material into the new millennium and continue to punch above their weight
Originally essentially a one man bedroom outfit that spawned into a full proper band.
Sadly Miranda were never able to fulfil their early promise and by the release of debut LP, Blessed Deviant the early promise of Burn Sinister had pretty much evaporated
Killing Mood
Odd one this. On the same GMR Music label as Citadel and obviously a label more familiar with heavier acts as the slightly bemused reviews from online rock and metal sites would testify but a rather nice slice of dark Americana which wouldn’t be out of place on a True Blood type soundtrack
Killing Ophelia
This
lot make me uncomfortable. Not for anything they have done per se but
in an almost superstitious sense. Ms Goth jnr (currently modelling the
Wear Black t-shirt on our front page) is called Ophelia and we felt a
bit weird having this in the house. I don’t know anyone called Miranda
so that’s alright (even that’s not strictly true but I haven’t seen her
for years.)
Track two of “last vision,” when things begin to get
going is so unusually timed that I think the CD is skipping on itself
every time I listen to it until it settles into its groove.
The
album as a whole is not bad but equally is not great either, it does
pick up at times and at its best sounds like a poppier Play it Again
Sam kind of release from the turn of the 80s/90s.
Even makes me think of a post millennium War of the Worlds at times
Kill Switch…. Klick
Industrial but in a way that makes me think of Zodiac Mindwarp
Kinderschander
Musically there are elements of “Torch,” by the Sisters on “Ziellos,” vocals feel a bit more spoken like Backworld
Kinetic
Shape
Nice female vox in an Incubus style but with a more electro soundtrack
Kirlian Camera
I always thought Kirlian Camera had a cool name even before I discovered what it meant- a camera that can photohgraph spirits or something. I’m somewhat reluctant to use the somewhat clichéd intelligent electro and there is more going on than that moniker suggests. Musically they can be verging on the ambient and the majority of their output appears almost entirely synth driven but then there are occasions where guitars are introduced and the sound is almost reminiscent of Judith. Having studied their credits I believe even the guitars are sampled and the closest to a real instrument is a treated piano, which I believe may be something like a prepared piano. Give the distinct impression of being an Italian duo. I have two albums, “coroner’s sun” and “invisible front,” and there is quite a contrast between the two, the former is more traditional song structures with some tracks you can even imagine humming along to. Vocals can be a little Eva-O at times and some tracks wouldn’t be out of place alongside the KLFs stadium house trilogy.
Kiss the Blade
Quite rocky to the point of being virtually metal
Klang
Abstract
Industrial neo medieval
moodiness.
Slightly folky female vocals
Kliche
Early
Klinik,
the
British
bleepy electro industrial not dissimilar to Sheep on Drugs in many ways
KMFDM
Drum machine with the temp cranked to 11- check. Distorted Guitars- check. Samples a go go- check. But KMFDM are much more than a lowest common denominator Ministry showing a wealth of ideas and offering real variety across their output whilst not loosing their trad industrial core.
Formed in
Knifeladder
Organic Industrial Music if you believe their own description. Very heavy traditional industrial if you want my personal view on their output. Very much at the drone rather than bleep end
Kofe
Very mid-80s new romantic feel. Could almost pass for Duran Duran
Kontrast
Very atmospheric. You could imagine this lot scoring a Disney nasty, albeit a
very atmospheric one. “to9d find ich gut (version)” has a very Germanic sound
which I don’t imagine you would have guessed.
Korpse
Growly Gothic metal on Candlelight
Krankheit Der Jugend
At
risk of contradicting myself elsewhere in these esteemed web pages this
lot are the only Goth band I can think of that have evoked the spirit
of H F Thefienne himself. Not on every track and I can’t quite pinpoint
it but its there. Otherwise Gift-Sucht is very guitar perfectly good
and possibly German, that might be a probably actually. I think it is
“Die Unsterblichen,” that has the completely HFT vocal delivery. They
thank Trylok for I think my (possibly) German isn’t great, realising
the art. Whether that is the same Trylok mentioned elsewhere or whether
it is a common name somewhere in Europe I’m not sure. A bit of early
80s UK Goth/Raincoat thing going on as well.
Uniquely rubbish in a quaint sub-Sisters kind of way
Imagine you hadn’t realised “Love Cats,” wasn’t a novelty and you tried to base
your sound around it without the catchy tune...
Krell
Another run of the mill industrial type affair with shouty vocals
Kristie, Liv
Liv is the singer of Leaves eyes I think. “Only If,” is brilliant almost dream pop with more in common with Dubstar than Star Industry. I did think it sounded like the Gothic Enya at one point but as it is an Enya cover that is not particularly surprising. Not sure how representative this is of her solo work but I intend to find out.
